About Me!
Well, some friends have asked me to chronicle my fun in the dirt! I’m a fortysomething mom of three, and in my spare time, I like to raise organic vegetables, grow native perennials and old-fashioned favorites, traipse around the local trails, and hunt and identify wildflowers.
During the long winter months, (and believe me, they are long in Minnesota) I dream about next spring’s projects, read everything in sight, and knit up a storm.

Love the pictures! Is that a pumpkin in the composter? I’m sort of guessing you’re not growing them in there…

Yes, it’s a pumpkin! I think there are six big ones in there–I broke them apart once they started to decompose a bit. It’s not unusual to get one growing in the compost though, in the spring, when the seeds sprout.

Hi, enjoying your website.
I found it because I’m doing some research on landscaping with native plants. I’ve got a small front yard in St. Paul and I would really like to beautify it this year.

Hi Jim – any idea what sort of plants you’re looking to put in, yet? It’s nice to go through neighborhoods and see a lot of the yards redone in native plants or edible gardens.

Hello
Enjoying your posts! I’ve been busy starting native wildflower seeds indoors as I just could not wait for better weather.

Good luck, SK. It’s a longer wait with the native perennials, but the end result is so worth it!
